ADB discussing USD 940 million assistance for Bangladesh COVID vaccination programme

The ADB Country Director also praised the handling and management of the COVID-19 pandemic by Bangladesh.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is working with the government of Bangladesh for providing a USD 940 million assistance to purchase COVID-19 vaccine. According to the official news agency BSS, this was discussed during the courtesy call of the ADB Country Director for Bangladesh Manmohan Parkash with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka on Tuesday.

BSS quoted the Prime Minister’s Asst. Press Secretary MM Emrul Kayas said that ADB is discussing the proposal for USD 940 million assistance from ADB’s APVAX facility to help expedite the economic recovery of Bangladesh from the pandemic.

The ADB Country Director also praised the handling and management of the COVID-19 pandemic by Bangladesh. He appreciated the decision in opening all the sectors of economy in phases which has restored normalcy in Bangladesh economy. Manmohan Parkash also said that Bangladesh is one of the three countries in Asia which are successfully conducting the COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
